Aonach Eagach - September 2003
On the weekend of the 6th of September 2003 Gary and I headed up to Glencoe. I was a good weekend (weatherwise) and we were both hoping to complete the Aonach Eagach ridge, which had beat us that February.
The ridge has a pretty fierce reputation, so we decided to take no chances and Bivi'd on top of Am Bodach to get a head start on the next day. The following morning we got up, and did the ridge, finishing off at the Clachaig Inn.
That of course isn't the end of the story. The reputation of the ridge is well founded, not because it is particularly technically difficult, but because there is so much of it. The route is very exposed, has plenty of tricky bits, and is certainly not for the inexperienced. We were lucky, it was a gorgeous day, without a breath of wind, but in worse conditions (like February) it would have been another story. The only really tricky bit we had was the two pinacles on the narrowest part of the ridge (you know the ones we mean), or rather the lack of them - we tried to go round them. Don't.
All the pictures from the weekend were taken by Gary.
